mrs dubose

when we are first introduced to mrs dubose, all we are shown is her angry, morphine addicted, racist side. however, after Jem goes nuts on her garden, and is forced to read to her, we see under the aggressor. mrs bubose has been on morphine for years, and after stopping her treatment, she is suffering greatly from withdrawal symptoms. Jem reading to her allows her to concentrate on one thing at a time, and she is able to recover from her morphine addiction before she dies. when the reader finnaly understands this, mrs dubose is no longer just an angry old woman, but also a human being who had been helped from their suffering

a time i got into trouble...

i while ago i was playing hockey with my brother in the corridor. we were using a proper hockey ball, and at the time didn't think of the problems that it could have. however, when a deflection off the wall caused the ball to hit the back door, we found we had a problem. perhaps for most people, it would be no worries, however our back door is made up of one single sliding glass pane. it is very expensive to replace, and thats why we were rather worried to see an extremely large spider crack that spread in all directions from the cracked dent that now occupied the bottom corner of the glass pane... oh dear. because we went straight to our parents, they were resonably forgiving, but that didn't make us any less ashamed during the lecture we got about playing safe indoors....
